Made by Many were able to engage the institution as a whole rather than the particular department that was running the project. They showed themselves willing to really listen and to understand and respect the way the organisation is structured… there is a genuine outcome from their working process that left us feeling empowered and liberated.

Half a million extra visitors in 2 years: Taking the V&A digital
Why transformation?
Made by Many enabled the V&A to do something it had never done before: develop and grow its own digital platform and to bring digital into the heart of decision-making and visitor experience at the world’s leading museum of art and design.
Our approach
Working closely with the senior management team, we defined a digital brand and content strategy to open up the museum and its activities to a global audience and improve access to visitors.
We created an award-winning digital brand identity and customer experience, in partnership with an in-house digital team that we mentored to give the museum the technology, design and content skills needed to determine its own digital future.
The results

The first public release of the new platform was delivered by a combined V&A and Made by Many team in just 12 weeks, in a programme that included retraining V&A developers from Python to Ruby on Rails and the recruitment of new technical, design and product leadership.
The immediate impact was a substantial increase in visitor engagement, better conversion to ticket sales and an eight-fold increase editorial productivity created by the bespoke editorial tools we designed for the content team.
Just two years later, the entire cost of the work on website, events calendar, ticketing and online store has been repaid by an increase in visitor numbers of 500,000 attributed directly to the V&A's digital platform.
