Hopefully you’ve read Heather’s post about how she came to Made by Many to do an internship and what she learnt in all that time with us. It’s been a great 6 months (she left last weekend), and we all really enjoyed having her here, not to mention how we appreciate the fantastic design work she did on a number of our projects. I got her to answer a few questions before she left – here’s what she said:
What’s your iPhone app of the moment?
Instagram – it’s been a good connection to friends, especially as I’m away from the place I usually call home (Colorado), and I like knowing what people are doing. I like it better than Facebook because it’s a little more passive. It’s like a visual diary – more of someone’s perspective than their experience, which I like.
Your favourite band?
Led Zeppelin, though I know they’re really old…
The funniest thing you’ve heard or seen at Made by Many?
Hmmm... there are a lot of moments that I can put on this list, but an evening that stands out in particular was at our officewarming party. I had been chatting to a few people when I saw Stuart, one of the co-founders of MxM, make a brisk move towards one of the guests. It was at that point I realised that the bloke he was heading towards had come uninvited. If you know Stuart you would know that he is a total techie and all around super friendly guy, so watching him vigorously ask this guy to leave as he backed down like a shy little puppy was extremely humorous.
The service or site you think is a total fad right now?
Twitter - I definitely have a love/hate relationship with this service; however, more and more it is becoming an obligation. In the not-so-distant past, Twitter was for me a great source of news, content and recommendations. Now it seems to be a fix for my habitual addiction with a few useful tools in a deep sea of uselessness. Although it seems I may have a lot of animosity towards it, I am not ready to stop using it altogether. It has proven to be especially useful in reaching out to people I may not otherwise have a chance to talk to.
The UX blog you read everyday?
johnnyholland.org. It is an open collective of folk from varying backgrounds that are involved in interaction design/user experience in some capacity. I really like that it's not just the opinions of one person, rather the thinking and perspectives of people from across the world. The posts are usually quality thought-out content that is well articulated and relevant.
Favourite design blog
The Fox is Black. It’s a really good collection of design work and articles to read. It’s a pretty reliable go-to source for inspiration.
If you had to rename Made by Many, what would you call it?
I really like the name. I don’t know…Made by Crazies? (Ha. Thanks, for that Heather!)
iPad, iPhone, iPod or Mac, and why?
My Macbook Pro – it’s really the one thing I can’t live without.
What inspires you?
Natural surroundings, being around nature. I snowboard and rock climb. I like that when I’m out in natural surroundings, I don’t need to think about work actively and yet creative ideas come to me on their own.
If you could ask one person in the company a question, who would you ask, and what would it be?
I’d ask Tim this: in your time as a comedian, what are the best and worst jokes you have ever told?
What will you take back with you as your favourite memory of Made by Many?
It was the morning we all moved into this new space at Diespeker Wharf and had a champagne breakfast. You could feel how excited everyone was about coming to this space, you could feel the energy and sense of camaraderie that came out of working hard to be here. It was fun to be part of that and see everyone so invested in moving the company forward together.

We already miss her, but look forward to seeing the great things she will no doubt move on to very soon.
