R.I.P. Picle
It's been a while since we last wrote a blog post about Picle, in fact it's been over a year. The last post promised a re-worked version with group picling, an instagram-like feed where you could interact with friends and a simple discovery mechanism for watching Picles from around the world.
We always promised to make Picle an open experiment in Lean product innovation. Quoting a blogpost Tim wrote last year 'Our model is to help clients make their own products and services and we're not set up to launch and operate on our own. Picle was a step into the unknown, we didn't know what to expect and in return we have learnt a hell of a lot from it.
Sadly we couldn't always put the attention into the project that it deserved. Before long other companies started creating similar apps: 'How To' cropped up first then Twitter and Facebook released 'Vine' and 'Instagram video' respectively.
In fact recently I had a few friends congratulating me that Picle had made it onto TV. Perplexed, my response was "what the **** are you talking about?!'' They replied "Picle's on the Samsung advert!"
Samsung had actually made the exact same thing and called it 'Sound and shot.'
It's been a while since we were at SXSW launching Picle, I'm gonna miss Picle, it was a great internal experiment and lots of people had their own stamp on it. A project like this would never have flourished would it not have been for the awesome people at Made By Many. So onwards and upwards, i'm afraid there won't be anymore releases for Picle.
Here's a little tribute to a great experiment

If anyone knows any Necromancers please forward this blog post onto them :)
