Unbillable Hours is our weekly round-up of what we’re doing when we’re not working on client projects, plus our most-talked-about Slack links.

Annie the Owl pop up bar is coming to Soho in March where patrons will get two cocktails with their ticket and two hours to spend with a parliament of owls! And best of all? The profits go towards supporting the work of the Barn Owl Centre. Fingers crossed that some of us will win tickets in the raffle! This event will be a hoot!

And upon hearing of this, our Slack channel quickly devolved into a series of owlful puns ….

Our very own Higgis and Raffi are undertaking an Everesting trip - where they'll ride their bikes and climb a minimum 8848 m in elevation - all in one day! They’re off on Tenerife climbing Teide right now as you’re reading this! Follow them on Instagram and the Twitters (Higgis and Raffi) to stay up-to-date about their adventure! They're using a #teideidiotsclub tag for easy searching. Good luck you two!

The week-long World of Women Festival kicks off at the Southbank Centre on 1 March. MxM's own Heather Taylor-Portmann will be speed mentoring participants during one of the many workshops.

Something that popped up in our #london channel is what Scarlett of Soho is doing on their site when engaging users - their gender selector (see below). We like this because it asks which gender you identify with, rather than the normal presumption of which one you were assigned at birth. We appreciate what SoS is doing and our conversations led to how this step could be further inclusive, beyond offering a binary selection. Our discussions led to a two axis idea where the X goes from one gender to the other and the Y identifies your attachment.

Also, we're keeping an eye on Selfridges as they're launching their Agender project - where they transform their men's and women's shopping spaces into gender neutral space for two months.

A number of us are fans of Wes Anderson's visually rich films and have been talking about Annie Atkin's visual impact and her contribution to The Grand Budapest Hotel. You can also read an interview with Martin Venezky who designed the TGBH book (as well as The Wes Anderson Collection).

The futures of text? Jonathan Libov has a great piece exploring the interactions and possibilities of text. We're also intrigued with the new Digit service that recently opened up in the USA. Yes to saving £/$!

Hackaball Kickstarter launches 3 March!

After a couple years of prototyping and refinement, our Hackaball project is opening up to the world when we launch our Kickstarter project on Tuesday! Sign up for updates and keep an eye out on our Twitter and Instagram accounts as we host a launch party at Diespeker Wharf and New York on 3 March. Hopefully you'll be a proud owner of a Hackaball soon!

Bits and bobs

The Stevedores Beer and Whiskey Bar in Bethnal Green, the six-week long pop up bar, is open for a couple more weeks so a number of us will be making a visit there soon!

PBS is doing some interesting work around interactive documentary through their site Empire: The unintended consequences of colonialism. FYI, it only works in a Chrome browser.

We're floored by the GIF mastery of Jonnie Hallman. Much awesomeness.

We're finding a number of graceful interactions that we like such as this one from Mr Porter (roll your mouse over the second image) and this tweet by Utku Can:

Want to take buzzwords out of your copy? Then you should give Sans Bullshit Sans a try!

Did you watch Pimp My Ride growing up? Well, you can read more about what happened behind the scenes.

To wash your hair or not?

Of the NSFW variety, a couple of links that popped up include Love Letters from Craig (connect your headphones first!) that explores modern-day hook ups by scraping content from Craiglists' casual encounter ads. If that doesn't interest you, try this game.
