On the agenda this week: celebrating Ada Lovelace Day, learning about the nuances of criticism, extreme customer development, northern soul, dog costumes, ice skating and delirium-inducing treacle pudding.

What are we doing to become better workers/human beings?

We're going to this edtech event with Santeri Koivisto on game environments for teachers and students.

Women in Tech is a conference for everyone who wants to learn more about the women working in the tech industry, held at the University of Nottingham.

Nicer Tuesdays are back at the end of October with a series of talks on art.

Mozilla Festival is back this year at Ravensbourne College from October 24-26. How can the web do more and do it better?

Which articles are causing a stir in our office?

The third great wave - The first two industrial revolutions inflicted plenty of pain but ultimately benefited everyone. The digital one may prove far more divisive.

If we want more women in tech, we need to sweat the small stuff - Why are girls avoiding tech careers? Because we’re wasting time waiting for government to provide a big solution, when what we really need is grassroots action.

Everyone’s a Critic, But Delivery Still Counts - How criticism is delivered differently around the world and what it means for the criticised.

Customer Development for Startups: What I Learned Talking to 500 Customers in 4 Weeks - Here's what an experiment like this will teach you.

The Forgotten Female Programmers Who Created Modern Tech - In celebration of Ada Lovelace Day this week.

Ways men in tech are unintentionally sexist- Some carefully worded advice for those who want to improve on being inclusive. Not only for men.

Roboto - We're very curious as to how this new way of building and testing apps could be used in our work.

What's on at the cinema?

Palo Alto is the debut feature from writer-director Gia Coppola. It's based on the book with the same title by James Franco.

Northern Soul is a celebration of the underground movement that became an enduring legacy of '70s youth culture. Steve Coogan appears in this one.

How are we entertaining ourselves?

We will be dressing Strategy Dog in this rather fantastic costume for Halloween.

And we're looking for adult cats in our local area. Meow meow meow.

What kind of art and design are we stroking our chins to?

Artist Conrad Showcross is exhibiting his dancing robot Ada at the NCP car park in Brewer Street, London. The Ada Project involved commissioning music from four female musicians to which the robot and the artist dance in the gallery.

MIRRORCITY is the Hayward Gallery's latest exhibition. It shows the work of key emerging and established artists from London. These artists seek to address the challenges, conditions and consequences of living in a digital age.

What about sports?

The ice rink at the Natural History Museum opens at the end of this month. We're practising our pirouettes.

What are we eating this week?

Steamed treacle sponge and custard from St John Bread and Wine in Spitalfields. GET IN MY FACE. NOW.
