Unbillable hours #7
It's been a week of documentary recommendations, space flight and anxiously watching the weather forecast. Here's a quick look at what we've been reading, doing and talking about in the studio.
Things we're reading
We all got excited about Dave Addey's wonderful breakdown of the typography in Alien, Moon and 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Dan Grover has published an extensive (and surprising) list of the differences between apps in China and the US.
Alice Bartlett is continuing to inspire the women in our office with the frankly marvellous Tampon Club v2.
The lists of 2015 trends have started and, thanks to Digiday, we now know what is in and what is out for next year. Goodbye GIFs, hello agency incubators.
We also learnt that Ant and Dec are only ever photographed in the correct order, except for when they're not.
Things we're watching
Like lots of people we've been glued to NASA's live coverage of the Orion flight test for the last two days, waiting out yesterday's holds before catching the launch this morning.
It's been a space-y kind of a week as we've also been marvelling at the wonderful short film Wanderers. Made by Erik Wernquist and voiced by Carl Sagan, it uses digital recreations of real places in the solar system to share a vision for human expansion into the solar system.
As it's getting a bit cold and gloomy outside, it also feels like the perfect time for evenings spent at home with Netflix. So with that in mind, James offered some documentary recommendations to keep us all going over the weekend.
Pandora's Promise - James says "good documentary about environmentalists who now believe they made a terrible mistake in opposing nuclear power"
Citizen Koch - "a really scary documentary about how the Koch brothers bought an election in Wisconsin (it's not exactly a bipartisan documentary as you might gather from the description)"
Pantani: The Accidental Death of a Cyclist- "very good documentary about Pantani who (probably) doped his entire career, was thrown out of the Giro d'Italia (his home) race and then self destructed, eventually dying of a cocaine overdose at age 34."
Speaking of Netflix, we nearly reopened our #house-of-cards channel on Slack after seeing that it's due to return in February.

Nobody else in the studio watches The Walking Dead, so if you'd like to talk to me about the mid-season finale, please say hello.
Things we're doing
Some of us have been struggling for survival playing This War of Mine. It's arduous and emotional, quickly shattering your joy at catching a rat for dinner when your shelter is raided just hours later and you lose your much-needed firewood to an armed intruder.
We're getting out and about with The Gentlewoman's Soho ghost walk, Hackney Pirates' Xmas Marks the Spot (hot spiced cider!), and The London Illustration Fair.
On top of those local goings on, I've been planning a trip to New York in January and as well as looking forward to dropping in to see our NY colleagues, I've also been booking return visits to see Sleep No More and Then She Fell.
Things we're eating
It's been a quiet week for food, but our annual Christmas beach party is next week and our shopping list is getting longer.
This afternoon we'll be drinking some mulled wine to make sure the recipe is absolutely perfect for the beach, whilst checking every available weather forecast to try to predict the day. Fingers crossed for sun and blue skies.
